Children's Religious Education -- RE (preschool to 5th grade)

The children's programs are administered by Sue Davey.

The children's programs include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Pre-school Religious Education classes
  • Religious Education Classes for Kindergarten through 5th grade
  • Social and Ministerial Programs
  • Special Events
  • Liturgy of the Word
  • Sacramental Preparation (Holy Communion & Reconciliation)

For families who still wish to register for the remainder of the 2012 year, there is limited availability of class sessions for most grade levels.  Call 630-369-0833 to check on availability.

The Religious Education Program runs Weekly from September through May.
Kindergarten - 5th Grade classes are held:

Monday 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.
Tuesday 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Saturday 9 - 10 a.m.

Pre-School & Kindergarten classes for children ages 3, 4 and 5 are held Sunday during the 9 a.m. Mass.

First Reconciliation Information

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is taught formally in Third Grade. Children are given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time in a group celebration typically scheduled in late November⁄early December. Parent assistance is vital in preparing their children for this sacrament.

First Holy Communion Information

First Communions will take place on these dates:

Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Mass

Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 12:15 p.m. Mass

Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Mass

Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 12:15 p.m. Mass

Practices will take place on the dates listed below. The child and at least one parent should attend. For children with parts, the specific parts practice will immediately follow the main practice session for each Mass.

April 24, 2012, 5:30 p.m. - 1st Communion General Practice for April 28, 5:00 p.m. Mass
April 25, 2012, 5:30 p.m. - 1st Communion General Practice for April 29, 12:15 p.m. Mass
May 1, 2012, 5:30 p.m. - 1st Communion General Practice for May 5, 5:00 p.m. Mass
May 2, 2012, 5:30 p.m. - 1st Communion General Practice for May 6, 12:15 p.m. Mass

Children's Masses

Children are encouraged to attend the Children's Masses that are held occasionally at the 5 p.m. Saturday Mass. Different grades are scheduled to host each Mass. The schedule for this year's Children Masses is as follows:

October 22, 2011 - 4th and 5th Graders

November 19, 2011 - 2nd and 3rd Graders

Christmas Eve 2011 - 6:00 PM Mass - Kindergarten-5th Grade  

February 4, 2012 - 1st and 3rd Graders

Liturgy of the Word: Kindergarten - 3rd grade

Children in grades K-3rd grade are invited to leave the church before the first reading and hear the Scripture from the Children’s Lectionary and learn what the readings mean in their lives. The children return to the church after the homily for the completion of Mass.

Liturgy of the word is offered at the Sat. 5:00 p.m. Mass, and the Sun. 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Masses.

Children's Prayer Services

Children and their families are encouraged to attend the grade specific prayer services held on the following Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. in the church:

December 10 - 1st Grade

January 21 - 4th grade

February 11 - Pre-school and Kindergarten

March 10 - 5th grade

R. E. Catechist Resources

The Religious Education office has many resources including over 800 books and several dozen videos and DVDs that can be checked out or used for teaching R.E. classes.
